Our South Telford clients are keen to onboard several Print Assistants on a temp-to-permanent basis. The role is key to help the smooth running of the print machines especially approaching the seasonal peaks. Duties include:

  • To liaise with and debrief with printer on any material factors which adversely impact, disrupt or interfere with the smooth running of scheduled work activity. To provide the Production Managers with reliable and accurate information relevant to the daily production schedules, highlighting any issues which may prevent the timescales within the production schedules being achieved.
  • To present a conscientious, professional image at all times being mindful that customers / visitors and external bodies may be on site at any time. To ensure that you and your crew are polite, courteous and welcoming when approached by customers, answering any questions where possible.
  • To fully adhere to ISO 9001 and 14001 procedures including the use and understanding of FSC/PEFC paper and paperwork.
  • To do everything possible to ensure that work produced is right first time and the product is of an excellent standard that meets or exceeds company / customer expectations including taking ownership of quality control by adhering to checking processes and the approval of printed work ensuring that all work produced is defect free and conforms to the required specifications.
  • Working to the most up to date schedule, being aware of possible updates. Working to the most up to date job ticket, being aware that the job quantity could change at time.
  • Making sure, you are using the correct paper for the job you are printing, the importance of booking in and out of paper correctly, on paper monitor.
  • Being aware of your surroundings always, particularly when moving reels with the electric truck.
  • Making up reels to Auto splice, the importance of checking for damage and the impact on press downtime/ deliveries if damage is missed.
  • Recycling, managing cardboard waste, reel wrappers, understanding the importance of recycling, separating white waste from printed waste and the costs savings associated by doing this.
  • Setting up the stackers for the various formats. A4, A5, A3 Delta. Setting up the track system, from folder to stacker for the various job sizes. Webbing up the press.
  • Running with the correct size end boards, and the impact on the Bindery if the wrong boards have been used. Managing end boards in your area, keeping the levels stocked up and neatly stacked in the correct colour coded bays.
  • The reporting of problems that could impact on production or the quality of the job and checking copies for marking at regular intervals on the track and in the stackers.
  • Managing rejected reels making sure they are moved to the quarantine area with the wrappers and end caps on, and reel rejected sticker is in place. Evidence is collected for a claim.
  • Emptying the paper bins and general waste before the end of your shift. Ensuring that during and especially at the end of shifts, work areas are left clean, general housekeeping duties have been maintained and that work stations are left in good order for oncoming shift staff.
  • To identify, determine and report both operator maintenance and maintenance department requirements and to adhere to maintenance schedules.
  • To undertake any other duties or responsibilities as may be required of you from time to time.

The role follows a 12 hour shift pattern 7-7 across Days and Nights (average 36 hours per week as standard). The role condenses 4 weeks work into 3 giving workers essentially one week off a month. Overtime is available and once permanent a shift premium is paid of 30% with overtime at 40%. Previous experience in a Production environment is desirable but not essential.
