A specialist SEND school in Guildford are looking for an Operational Behaviour Manager to join their school as soon as possible. 

The role

In this role you will work with pupils with SEMH and Special Educational Needs and take management responsibilities within the school. You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to overseeing the daily allocation of support staff for learning and behaviour and to take responsibility for support staff cover arrangements. You will also have your own timetable and work with pupils in direct interventions for out of class behaviours and non-engagement in learning, developing personalized, time limited mentoring programmes to help young people remove the barriers to learning.

Your role will be flexible, and you will be involved in supervising pupils and engaging positively with them in both structured and unstructured times and working as part of the larger staff team in managing and modifying behaviour. 

Additional responsibilities will include administration, completing risk assessments and positive handling plans, maintaining incident reports and monitoring the quality of environment in relation to damage and graffiti.

Person specification

The school are looking to appoint an Operational Behaviour Manager who

  • is experienced in working effectively with disaffected pupils who display SEMH and/or on the autistic spectrum and to evidence progress and outcomes for those pupils in relation to academic and behavioural progress.
  • has a recognised ability to engage pupils positively whilst maintaining consistent boundaries.
  • has excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • is confident in managing highly challenging behaviour
  • has an understanding of restorative justice practices/approaches
  • PRICE trained or willing to undertake training

The school 

This specialist school is part of a larger Academies trust across the Southeast supporting children and young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan. Students have often missed education before joining the school and have comparatively low levels of prior attainment as well as low levels of self-confidence and self-esteem. The experienced leadership team at the school and wider trust is to prepare every child for the wider community supporting them to develop the knowledge, skills, emotional and social maturity to make thoughtful decisions and become purposeful young adults. The school uses a curriculum that is not solely focused on individual lessons but is an entire planned learning experience, with a child centred approach to every aspect of a student’s life including therapeutic provision, SEMH needs, rewards/sanctions and learning.
