Mechanical Technician

Norfolk

Up to £35,000 DOE

Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5pm

An opportunity has come up for a skilled Mechanical Technician to join an exciting and ambitious early-stage electric motors client in Norfolk. The Mechanical Technician will be an integral part of the mechanical team and will be responsible for mechanical fabrication of all in house development.

Responsibilities of the Mechanical Technician

  • Building small batch prototype assemblies, fixtures and tooling.
  • Perform mechanical tear down, route cause investigation and failure analysis.
  • Supports design for assembly and design for manufacture activities.
  • Perform first article inspection of manufactured and purchased parts using metrology and inspection equipment.
  • Planning in house machining by studying technical drawings, engineering plans, materials, and orthographic drawings.
  • Taking inventory by checking stock to determine the amount available, anticipated stock, and placing orders.
  • Programming CNC mills and lathes using conversational and G-code methods
  • Setting-up CNC mills and lathes by installing work holding and tooling
  • Using manual mills, lathes and other engineering equipment
  • Using 3D printers to produce components
  • Checking and completing first article inspections on internal and external designs, providing technical reports accordingly
  • Maintains continuity within the engineering department by documenting and communicating actions, work packages and resource requirements
  • Assembly of components whilst adhering to engineering drawings and relevant standards

 

Qualities and Experience of the Mechanical Technician

 

  • Experience of programming, setting and operating CNC machinery (Mill turn preferred) in a development environment
  • Excellent understanding of tooling and material properties within machining and assembly applications
  • Proven knowledge of manufacturing production and engineering processes such as value engineering.
  • Previous experience using CAD/CAM.
  • Strong mathematical background
  • Experience in mechanical assembly is preferred
