Field Service Engineer


Job Description:

Orion Rail has a fantastic opportunity on behalf of our leading UK Rail client, to provide the required support and maintenance for their customers and products at
both UK sites & customer locations. 

Temporary to Permanent Position 

Days and Nights Shift Pattern (Call Out)


As the Field Service Engineer, you will be required to run maintenance procedures, diagnostic testing, and mechanical duties on Diesel Engines. 

If you have experience and knowledge of Diesel Engines, this is the perfect opportunity for you! 


Field Service Engineer's Duties:

Update and maintain Diesel Engines per manufacturer specifications and requirements. 

The scope of this activity includes the initial preparation of work and organisation of workflow.

Day-to-day liaising with customers and keeping accurate, concise records of work completed.

Provide excellent customer service 

Prioritise safety, innovation for customers, operational excellence, and teamwork.


Qualifications /Education for the field service engineer position:

At least 2 GCSEs or equivalent at Grade C or above, including English Language and Mathematics.

Mechanical and/or Electrical engineering ONC, or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.

HNC/HND level / NVQ Level 4 / Foundation degree.


Skills, Knowledge & Experience of the Field Service Engineer:

Outstanding technical attributes & an aptitude for fault finding on Diesel Engines.

Significant technical ability in Diesel Engines

Good understanding of Health and Safety legislation.

Ability to train others.

IT skills (particularly MS Excel and Laptop/Tablet computers)

Ability to compile technical reports.

Ability to efficiently organise own workload.

Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.


Essential Requirements:

  • Drivers License
  • NVQ 3 in Engineering or Equivalent
  • Good Customer Service Skills
