Our client is the leading manufacturer of quality ion exchange, catalyst, adsorbent and specialty high-performance resins, As part of their rapid expansion they now require an Application Scientist - Biocatalysis.
Application Scientist summary
The successful candidate will have a significant contribution to the R&D projects performed within the Life Sciences Application group of the business.
One of the main roles will be to develop suitable enzyme immobilisation methods using Purolite resins and commercially available or customer specific enzymes. He or she will optimise the immobilisation methods and transfer them to pilot or plant scale, developing the relevant analytical methods to evaluate the performance of the immobilisation. Alongside the biocatalysis role, the candidate will be contributing to characterisation and applications using chromatographic synthetic resins. The successful candidate will work closely with the R&D and Commercial teams, in product development and customer interactions, will produce technical reports to present internally and externally and will represent the business at major conferences.Essential Requirements:
Degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering.
Experience in chromatographic techniques, such as HPLC/UPLC/FPLC, GC and analytical techniques, such as UV/Vis, IR, and wet chemistry techniques.
Good understanding of proteins and enzymes.
Good understanding of column chromatographic techniques such as reverse phase and ion exchange chromatography.
Must be a self-motivated person who is methodical, organised and has excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work both in a team and independently.
Effective communication skills are essential as role requires co-ordination of work with peers and customers.Desirable Requirements:
Industrial experience in using proteins or enzymes.
Experience in performing enzymatic biocatalytic processes.
Experience in performing enzyme immobilisation.
Experience working under a quality management system in an ISO: 9001, FDA or MHRA regulated laboratory.
Experience in packing chromatographic media into columns.
Experience in scaling up processes from R&D to pilot or plant scale.
