Head of Biology - September 2023


Job Description:

Step Teachers are currently looking for an experienced Teacher for a Head of Biology role in a Secondary School in Greenwich September 2023. While this role is intially on a long term basis, the school are looking to make the role permanent for someone who fits well into the school's ethos. The school provides education from Key Stage 3 - Key Stage 5 and the role is a Head of Biology across all year groups. 

This school sets high expectations for both students and staff and is driven to see every student succeed in their education. The school are rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted and has a very inclusive ethos atmosphere that supports every student to succeed.


  • Good knowledge of the KS3 - KS5 Biology curriculum
  • Able to plan and deliver engaging and comprehensive lessons
  • Maintain a well organised classroom and ensure the safe use and storage of all equipment
  • Work effectively with other members of staff, both within the department and throughout the school
  • Ability to assess students, monitor their progress, and provide constructive feedback
  • Compliance with the schools’ policies and the reliable implementation of these
  • Oversee the running of the department and support the staff within it


  • Hold QTS or an equivalent qualification
  • Have recent mainstream school-based experience teaching Science at secondary school level.
  • Have a good level of classroom and behaviour management
  • A relevant Science related degree is desirable
  • SEND experience is desirable
