Job Summary

Leadership of the manufacturing environment by delivering results through the team of shift managers ensuring the safety and quality culture of the factory is driven to a world class standard.

Works closely with the ops director, EHS Manager and Engineering Manager, setting the strategy for the manufacturing side of the business as well as ensuring excellent day to day execution.

 

Job Description

Health & Safety

  • Promote a safety culture and ensure all production personnel carry out their responsibilities in line with Bakels Health and Safety standards.

 

Food Safety & Quality

  • Promote a food safety culture, managing activities to ensure products meet quality, ensuring Bakels Quality Standards are adhered to at all times
  • Ensure all documentation and data entries are completed in an orderly, professional, timely manner
  • Manage and resolve any technical or quality issues in a timely manner, working across departments to identify root cause and effective corrective actions
  • Manage and resolve issues identified through Production Non Conformances and Customer Complaints, identifying root cause with effective corrective actions, ensuring documentation is detailed and accurate
  • Review and develop the Standard Operating Procedures for Powder & Wet Plants to ensure consistent practises are adhered to across all shifts

 

People

  • Review and set expectations and objectives for Shift Managers and put together a development plan to bring them to the required standards
  • Responsible for the engagement of wider operations team through the shift managers
  • Manage labour resource, ensuring that correct manning levels are maintained in order to run the department effectively in line with budgetary constraints and Production Plan demand.
  • Manage and co-ordinate labour and holidays to ensure production department is resourced effectively in line with Production Plan demand.
  • Manage sickness and absence, conducting disciplinary procedures when required, in line with company policy.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all Production Staff are adequately trained on plant, machinery, systems, procedures, personnel and health and safety practices ensuring records are maintained.
  • Conduct Shift Managers Annual Personal Development Reviews quarterly, to review performance and identify training requirements
  • Manage the performance of all Production Staff and carry out disciplinary actions in line with Bakels policies when required

 

 

 

 

 

 

Performance

  • Leader of the Daily Review Process- ensuring SIC and visibility of performance of the factory
  • Leads the Daily operations meeting, setting priorities for the next 24 hours
  • Manage department to ensure production volumes and target dates are achieved in line with the Production Plan ensuring Bakels Manufacturing Standards are met
  • Ensure Bakels Manufacturing Standards are regularly reviewed, targets set and performance against these standards are visible on an hourly basis.
  • Record and review all Operational Down Time on a weekly basis and ensure plans are in place to ensure operational downtime targets are achieved
  • Liaise and with Maintenance Manager to ensure that maintenance activities are prioritised ensuring planned maintenance activities are completed and maintenance downtime targets are achieved.

 

 

Person specification

 

Essential

 

  • At least 5 years production management experience.
  • Proven track record in people leadership and engaging teams.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety and Hygiene procedures.
  • High-quality knowledge on plant and machinery used within manufacturing environment.
  • Proven change management experience
  • Confident leader and self-starter with good communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Wet Plant manufacturing
