1st / 2nd Line Support Technician
Profectus Recruitment are working with a exceptional company in Surrey, who have the aim of providing high-quality IT support for all businesses across a variety of industries.
This company doesn’t really follow a strict first line / second line model. If you are relatively inexperienced, upon joining them you will be building PCs and doing reasonably straightforward support tickets relating to PCs, printers, PC applications and so on; adding users to AD or Exchange and similar things. If you have some experience and are presentable and confident enough you may also be sent onsite on an adhoc or regular basis – some of their clients want someone onsite half a day a week, for example – and even someone who doesn’t have server level experienced could potentially be useful as an onsite engineer.
There is less than 20 people in the company in total but some are based in the South West and others spend a lot of time on clients’ sites, so there’s probably between 3 and 8 in the main office at any given time. Training is mainly “on the job” where they shadow and mentor people, and new employees are encouraged to ask for help as often as they want. They’re also starting a programme where they subsidise the cost of online / self-study training and certification – this is in its infancy but is something the company will pay for or at the very least contribute to.
What sets them apart?
So… What they’re looking for is someone who is somewhere between first and second line. They’d ideally like someone who has spent their entire professional career in IT, even if that’s just a year long, and can take anyone with between 1 and 5 years experience depending on what you’ve been doing. They will expect you to have a solid grounding in basic networking, PCs and troubleshooting – and if you have actually spent more than a few months troubleshooting real problems on real networks they will have that grounding already.
Most of their clients are running Windows networks, some Office 365, a tiny amount of Azure etc.
I hope the role sounds appealing and look forward to speaking with some great candidates.
