Step Teachers, as a part of our ongoing success in building and retaining relationships with many schools and academy trusts in the area, are currently looking for a Design Technology Head of Department role for Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5 in a Secondary School near Friern Barnet to start in October 2023. This is a long-term supply role.

This is a "Good" Ofsted-rated school where Leaders and governors have successfully addressed the priorities for improvement identified at the previous inspection. Teaching is effective across a wide range of subjects. Teachers plan well for the needs of different groups of pupils. Some teaching, however, does not present pupils with a sufficient degree of challenge, and good practice is not always shared. In a very few subjects, pupils underachieve. 

Role:

• Good knowledge of the KS3 to KS5 Design Technology Curriculum

• Able to plan and deliver engaging and comprehensive lessons

• Maintain a well-organised classroom and ensure the safe use and storage of all equipment

• Work effectively with other members of staff, both within the department and throughout the school

• Ability to assess students, monitor their progress, and provide constructive feedback

• Compliance with the schools’ policies and the reliable implementation of these

Requirements:

• Hold QTS or an equivalent qualification

• Have recent mainstream school-based experience teaching Design Technology at the Secondary School level.

• Have a good level of classroom and behaviour management

• A relevant DT-related degree is desirable

• SEND experience is desirable
