Job Description:
A growing automation engineering company specialising in warehouse automation and materials handling solutions is looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of bespoke automated systems.
The company delivers end-to-end automation projects across manufacturing, logistics, and distribution environments, covering everything from concept design through to installation and system support. Due to continued growth and increasing project demand, they are looking to expand their engineering team.
The RoleAs a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing special purpose machinery and automated material handling equipment used in warehouse, logistics, and manufacturing facilities.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will contribute to the full lifecycle of automation projects, including concept development, detailed design, and support during manufacture and installation.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign special purpose machinery and automated materials handling systems
Develop 3D models and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks or similar CAD software
Design components and assemblies including conveyors, robotic interfaces, and handling equipment
Ensure designs consider manufacturability, tolerances, assembly, and serviceability
Produce Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation
Collaborate with controls engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams
Support system integration, testing, and commissioning
Participate in design reviews and technical problem solving
Candidate Requirements
Essential
Degree, HNC, or HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
Experience designing special purpose machinery or automation systems
Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and BOMs
Good understanding of design for manufacture and assembly
Strong problem-solving ability and engineering judgement
Desirable
Experience within materials handling, intralogistics, or warehouse automation
Exposure to robotics integration or automated systems
Experience working with large assemblies or complex machinery
Experience contributing to full project lifecycle engineering
