Full-time (37 hours per week) Communications Specialist contract to start on 21-10-19 until 10-01-20 with a possible extension.
Implement communications strategy, as part of the change workstream. Analyse future policy initiatives and national stories and forecasting the latest hot issues inside and outside the workplace and thinking about how they might impact the programme. Interpret and understand how local government works and what matters to Members by understanding local political realities, the drivers for local issues to ensure that opportunities and threats are appropriately managed. Build and maintain good relationships with the media on behalf of the workplace and use these to ensure that the authority’s views and priorities are reported as positively as possible. Prepare media releases, statements, national news articles and briefing notes and advise clients and partner spokespeople on key issues before interviews for radio, TV and print, if needed. Work closely with policy staff on message development and effective strategies to deliver key messages. Ensure the workplace retains a highly visible strong brand within all types of communication both internally and externally. Support internal communication to increase employee engagement, responsible for co-ordinating and developing a variety of channels involving presentations, workshops, conferences, meetings and other events as required. Undertake other duties appropriate to the grading and nature of the post as required.
