Our client is a leading greenfield developer of solar, energy storage and co-located projects.

Following recent investment, they are seeking to deploy a significant solar and battery portfolio within the UK and are expanding their development team in order to help them achieve their ambitious goals.

They are currently seeking to hire an experienced Connections Manager responsible for technically and commercially viable electrical connections across distribution and transmission projects. Projects are located across England, Scotland and Wales.

You will manage and lead the grid development process and other key development stage connection tasks such as DNO/ESO/TO liaison, commercial engagement with network operators and ICPs and early delivery project design.

In addition to your comprehensive understanding of the above elements you should be commercially orientated, have strong communication skills, ensuring that stakeholders across the business are supported and have the ability to think ahead to anticipate challenges.

 

Responsibilities

  • Managing all aspects of grid connections post origination
  • Leading commercial and technical work with network operators
  • Lead value engineering with third parties and networks
  • Manging the interface between technical advisors and potential EPC contractors
  • Maintaining and coordinating with project and development managers
  • ICP Management – value engineering alongside the origination team
  • Managing and reporting all aspects of network related charging, expected changes and other network related costs
  • Liaising directly with system planners and design engineers
  • Provide feedback and support to the origination team to help streamline the application process and improve success rates

 

Requirements

An ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Electrical/power systems engineering background with electrical/power systems qualifications
  • Understanding of standard grid connection designs and equipment across all networks including transmission
  • Track record in delivering major energy assets
  • Comprehensive knowledge all network areas including areas of constraint and upgrades
  • Robust understanding of distribution and transmission processes and regulations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant standards such as G99, G100, CUSC, Grid Code, Distribution Code etc
  • Experience with transmission connections in a Scottish context: BCA, BEGA, BELLA, securities, charging regimes
  • Connection route analysis and red flag reports including detailed costs analysis

 

Advantageous Experience

  • Experience of renewable energy and connection deliverables
  • Existing contacts within all network operators and ICPs
  • Business strategy, communication and project management
  • CAD skills (BricsysCAD) preferable but not essential
