Prison Custody Officer

Expired

Job Description:

Role Responsibility:

Prison Custody Officer

HM Prison Parc, Bridgend

Salary: £22,657.33 plus company pension, generous holiday entitlement, training and development

Full Time - 40 hours per week (Shift Work)

We’re looking for people with good communication skills, empathy and integrity to join our team of prison custody officers at one of Britain’s biggest prisons, HMP Parc in Bridgend, South Wales.

Our team of more than 730 staff currently looks after over 1,700 prisoners and young offenders and supports their efforts to turn away from crime and reduce re-offending.

Working closely with teams across the prison, you'll have a number of key responsibilities that help prisoners reform. First and foremost, you’ll make sure the prison is safe and secure with every prisoner accounted for each day.  You’ll also play a key role in giving offenders structure and routine, making sure they get to work in the morning, are actively engaging with the prison regime and secure in their cell in the evening.  You’ll be a role model and a leader and encourage prisoners to make positive choices which help them to turn their lives around.

These are challenging roles with no two days the same but there is a real opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives.  HMP Parc is managed by G4S, the world’s largest security company, and in terms of your own development we can support you into a range of roles across the prison and beyond.

The Ideal Candidate:

There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ prison officer and we encourage applications from people of all backgrounds who can show that they have the integrity, resilience and strong communications skills needed to thrive in these roles.

No specific previous qualifications or experience are required.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK, have been a UK resident for five years or more and pass security screening checks.

Training, development and benefits

If successful, you’ll start an eight week training course covering the law, first aid, your responsibilities, de-escalation techniques and the legitimate and proportionate use of control and restraint procedures.  This will be followed by on-site training and mentoring.

Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care.

Our team has a real opportunity to make a difference and we encourage people to improve the way we operate and develop new ways of working to improve safety and better support prisoners.   If you join us, you’ll find a secure, friendly and professional working environment and be given all the support, training and encouragement you need to build and develop a successful career with us.

Please be aware, there is no need for you to apply again if you currently have a live application in progress with us
