Our client is a leading Profit for Purpose business which works with major public and private sector clients to fund sustainable development projects that reduce carbon emissions at scale, measurably increase quality of life and deliver towards the UN Global Goals. 
 
 
The role
 
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an outstanding individual to join their Finance Team reporting to the CFO, but with a reporting line to the CEO for risk management activities.
 
The Finance team is responsible for all company finance matters, and all management information. 
 
The role will head the operational finance function for the business and will encompass responsibility for financial control, cash and transaction management, financial risk management, production of timely management and statutory accounts  and delivering key reporting and commercial MIS requirement for the CFO and the Executive team.  
 
This will be achieved through driving the function and the effective management and development of a small team of finance professionals. You will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of financial integrity.
 
You will deliver a strong environment of internal financial control and risk management and informative business data that enables effective decision making and reporting to the CFO and the Executive team. 
 
 
Responsibilities: 
 
Accounting
• Leading the finance team in the production of accurate monthly management accounts and monthly management information.
• Implement a zero-error policy framework across the finance function and commercial frameworks.
• Delivery of month-end close related to the above and contribute to value adding insight into variances and performance items. Ensure accuracy of month end results and key balance sheet accounts.
• Advising CFO and the Executive Team, where required, on any developments within financial reporting standards and other regulatory changes.
• Ensuring strong financial control across the company and that all reconciliations and related financial controls are completed in a timely manner.
• Lead and manage Debtor and Creditor control, ensuring payment terms are agreed and followed.
• Manage the year end processes/revenue recognition policies.
• To provide support to, and manage, external audit requirements.
 
Risk Management
• Develop an understanding of market risk as it applies to the core business and input to the Executive team accordingly. Work closely with our Portfolio Management team to calculate the risk associated with specific transactions including Value at Risk calculations
• Make recommendations to reduce or control risk including liaising with underwriters and insurers to provide an insurance strategy.
• Ensure effective low risk yield producing cash management through production of a cash management strategy including counterparty risk diversification, yield maximisation and liquidity.
• Design and operate a credit risk/invoice management process which minimises risk for the organisation whilst maintaining timeliness 
• Ensure best practice compliance with regulatory frameworks including all tax, any industry specific regulatory requirements (such as MfiD). Identify and communicate any impacts from changes in regulatory framework and recommend commercially aligned solutions.
• Ensure that all required legal and regulatory documents are filed on time.
 
Team Management
• Managing the small finance team (2 people) to deliver a high quality and timely service to the business.
• Providing leadership and support to help developing the finance team to their full potential.
 
 
Requirements
 
Technical
• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or through experience) with a proven background in managing a finance function in a fast-growing business.
• Experience in providing detailed reporting to Senior Leadership Teams, Boards, and Investors.
• Demonstrable understanding of, and the make-up of, a secure financial control environment.
• Proven experience of managing and enhancing risk management.
• Proven administrative, leadership and management effectiveness in the areas of financial planning, analysis and organisational development.
• Demonstrable competency in running a finance function including payroll, VAT and transactional processing.
• Attributable success in delivering a year end through to audit closure.
• Proven ability to analyse complex financial information and communicate results and options for decision-making clearly and succinctly.
