We are looking for a highly experienced Wintel Support Engineer in our head offices in Swindon. You’ll join our 3rdline IT Support team providing root cause and problem diagnosis for Windows based systems at an exciting time when we are starting to roll-out MS latest system (2019). Day-to-day you will work in a team of other Wintel specialists as well as taking part in cross functional teams to diagnose more complex issues across multiple technology areas.

The primary focus of the team is proactive and preventive work through the problem management process with occasional but significant involvement in the diagnosis of major and complex service impacting incidents.  You will also Line Manage a small team (4) of junior server specialists, managing their workloads and ensuring they are meeting agreed service levels.

You will be a self-motivated IT professional with significant experience in a 2nd/3rd line IT support role, have excellent communication skills, and the ability to articulate risks and issues as well as manage stakeholders and their expectations.

What you’ll be doing

You would have had experience of working in a technical team, providing root cause problem diagnosis and incident resolution, with the ability to identify, plan, implement and lead the complex proactive system enhancements to ensure efficient running of the Society’s technical infrastructure.

As a proven Line Manager, you’ll be managing the workload and mentoring junior staff to build technical and technology related business skills. You will have worked in a large organisation following ITIL best practice following a methodical, controlled, governed approach to project and system management.

You will proactively manage Nationwide’s production Windows server estate and support business critical systems on a 24x7 basis (out of business hours support is provided on a rota’ d on call basis).

Responsible for the third line support for critical line of business systems hosted on the Microsoft platform, you’ll be focussed on proactive and preventative work to ensure service levels are maintained without unexpected interruption in an environment where member and regulator expectations for service continue to rise. You will mentor and guide junior staff technically and you will be the first point of contact for technical and management escalation.

About You

You will have experience working on the following:

Windows Server 2012/2016/2019

PowerShell

Windows Security

IIS and Web services

PKI

Good knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, WINS, DHCP

Experience of the following would be useful but not essential as training will be provided

Problem solving methods (Advance7 RPR, Kepner Tregoe, etc)

Wireshark/NetMon packet trace analysis

Microsoft SysInternals and memory dump analysis

Major cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google)

BizTalk, IBM MQ, MS SQL
