Phipps Northampton Brewery Company has returned to its roots in a Victorian brewery in the heart of Northampton, 40 years after Phipps' Bridge Street Brewery closed.
Drop in and see the oldest new brewery in the country. The Albion Brewery Bar is open Tuesday to Saturday night for the most characterful drinking experience in the county where customers can actually watch the beer being brewed as they drink and dine with us.
Phipps, probably the best revived, heritage brewery in the world, as they might say further down Bridge Street!
We are looking for someone who has a sense of history and an understanding of the unique character of Phipps NBC and the Albion Brewery. Our manager should have a passion for local food and drink, a good knowledge of real ale and aspire to run the most characterful real ale bar in town. Bringing in new customers with music, comedy, quizzes and other attractions in keeping with the tone of the Albion Brewery, will be a key part of the job. In months and years to come, a large venue and function room will also become part of the operation as we expand into upper floors of the Victorian Albion Brewery.
Our Bar Manager will be responsible for supporting the commercial success of The Albion Brewery Bar. There is a deputy bar manager in place with a team of bar and kitchen staff including an experienced cellarman and senior bar person. The current Albion Brewery Bar Manager is moving within the business to become overall Deputy Brewery Manager so will be on hand to support the new manager.
The new manager must constantly adapt to ensure that the bar is profitable, pleasant and safe and that it is run in accordance with the law and ethical guidelines. The role requires effective staff management, commercial and practical skills.
Ideally the new manager will also hold a personal alcohol license and clean diving license in order to participate in the wide range of off-site activities such as beer festivals and food fairs Phipps takes part in.
Being a full part of the growing team of this company requires a can do, flexible outlook, tackling any task that presents itself in a bustling brewery and bar. Although your primary responsibility is to the bar as a distinct business, everyone at Phipps is encouraged to pitch in when needed at such events as the Northampton County Beer Festival and other company events.
