We are rebuilding on our current Originations systems, which includes Current Account, Savings and Credit Cards applications with new technologies and new ways of working. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a team alongside other skilled engineers, where you will be at the frontline of, designing, developing and supporting these key applications.

What you’ll be doing

We are looking for a mid-level engineer for one of our digital hubs, who can help define and create member-focused experiences across our products.

Day-to-day you’ll be exploiting your experience of delivering first-class solutions in an Agile environment. You’ll be involved in peer-review and sometimes mentoring. You’ll help to drive continuous improvements and adopt industry best practices. You’ll aspire to become an SME on the tools and technologies used to build our applications and over tie, gain a deep understanding of the end-to-end process from a technical perspective.

Please note, this role will involve being part of an "on call" rota.

 

About you

We need somebody with the following:

  • Extensive commercial experience, preferably with a programming background in one of the following: React, C#/.Net, NodeJS
  • Experience of working within a DevOps environment and a good working knowledge of the associated tolling, particularly Jenkins
  • Proven ability to be accountable for engineering decisions within a technical environment
  • Strong understanding of the development lifecycle and experience of working under Agile development methodologies
  • Understanding of API Gateways such as Apigee
  • Comfortable with peer reviews
  • The ability to quickly learn and work with new tools
  • Drive to continuously innovate and improve
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including status reporting
  • Prior financial services experience would be advantageous, but not essential

Experience of the following:

JavaScript frameworks like React, Angular and Vue

  • Working knowledge of NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB
  • Experience of TDD and unit testing

Understanding of Containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes

Experience in Cloud services, such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud

Understanding of Event driven architecture design using tools such as Kafka

Experience of API-driven and microservices-based architectures
