The Information Management & Information Technology (IM&IT) function is an exciting and diverse function that employs professionals from information management, information technology, information assurance and cyber security to management information and statisticians. This role offers the opportunity to work within a diverse and multi-disciplined team within the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA). The SDA is responsible for the United Kingdom's submarine maintenance and build programme; a top priority of the UK's defence programme and one of the largest UK programmes in existence. Working with our key industrial partners, BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce and Babcock Marine, we are striving towards delivering submarine capability in a more cost efficient, effective and safe way.

We are currently recruiting into our forward thinking and progressive Architecture function, operating in different parts of the organisation.

The successful candidate may be responsible for delivery at various levels, following a structured approach to technical architecture and design in order to deliver information and IT that are secure, reliable, available, and managed in line with policy and legal requirements.

This post requires pre-existing strong leadership and management skills in order to develop and maintain relationships and reputation with an operationally focused and specialist, stakeholder community. As such, this position is one of significant influence and requires an individual with the appetite for significant intellectual challenge and who is prepared to deliver leading edge technical solutions at pace.

The post will require the successful applicant to quickly gain a knowledge of the DE&S Ways of Working and demands a significant professional contribution to the Corporate Information Management & Information Technology (IMIT) Function. Specifically, the successful applicant will be expected to assume the roles of Delivery Manager (DM) and Functional Development Officer (FDO).

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for;

  • System ownership with principal accountability for ensuring the integrity and availability of a dedicated Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme (NNPP) Network serving 800 Users at 10 locations.
  • Network operations including crypto management.
  • Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Security Management.
  • Liaison and co-operation with partner organisations in the USA on system development and security management.
  • Obsolescence management and Network modernisation.
  • (Build, maintain and provide access to High Performance Computer (HPC) clusters for high speed processing.

To be successful in these posts you must have recent demonstrable IT architectural design experience at significant scale within a professional work environment.

Essential Criteria:

  • Practical experience of building, operating and maintaining large-scale Wide Area Networks.
  • Practical experience of securing and maintaining the integrity of Information Systems operating at SECRET level.
  • Experience at Practitioner level of implementing ITIL service management principles.
  • Experience of writing System Requirements, Solution Recommendations, High-Level Designs and Low-Level Designs.
  • Demonstrate managerial and leadership skills; ability to lead a highly motivated, technically competent team.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with industry leading technology vendors on potential solutions, assessment and testing options.
  • High level of communication skills; ability to brief verbally and with confidence to up to a 2* audience translating technical issues and requirements into understandable actionable outcomes.
  • Understand and articulate technical, commercial and security risk at programme level.

Highly Desirable Criteria:

  • Working knowledge of architecture standards and methodologies, such as TOGAF.
  • British Computer Society (BCS) ISEB Practitioner Certificate in Enterprise & Solution Architectures.
  • Experience of running engineering applications and processes on High Performance Computer (HPC) clusters.
  • Cyber Security certification.
  • CISCO Network Manager certifications.
  • ITIL 4 Practitioner certification

You will be required to obtain DV clearance within 6 months.
