Job Description:

What does an Incident Analyst do?

The team is responsible for:

  • Actively ensuring availability of PA’s technical services by monitoring the health of PA’s networks, server estate and digital feeds.
  • Managing incoming work on a service-level based queueing system.
  • Investigating faults and implementing technical fixes.
  • Escalating to third-line teams and working with them to resolve incidents.
  • Determining when an incident is going to impact the business and making sure they are aware.
  • Bringing in technical work from other technical teams (like Networks and Dev/Ops) into Ops.
  • Keeping operational technical documentation up-to-date.

What do I need to apply?

  • You’re a strong communicator and have the right attitude. You’ll need a calm manner and you can keep a cool head when things heat up. You’ll be dealing with people about to miss their deadlines and you’ll be surrounded by some of the most technical people you can possibly imagine. You’ll be able to influence and persuade them.
  • You’re dependable and a team player. IT Operations is a small team and there’s a lot riding on it. Everyone’s going to be banking on you.
  • You want a technical career. This is a step-up from working on a Service Desk. We have specific teams to pick up desktop support, so you’ll primarily be working on servers. You’ll get exposure to a huge variation in technologies If you want to progress in IT, this is where you’ll do it.
  • You want to learn new skills. Often. You’re going to be working closely with Networks, Dev/Ops and Infrastructure engineers. You’ll deal with developers. There’ll be times when you can barely follow what they are talking about. We do run Windows but it’s nearly all Unix-based here, so you need get comfortable working on a command-line and be willing to become brilliant at it. You’ll be up for learning new things – but you’ll also know your limits. You’ll stop and ask questions when you’re not sure and you’ll avoid breaking any of our production systems.
  • You’re an analyst. You won’t drop something because it’s working again – you’re thinking about why it broke, what needs to happen to stop it from happening again, and how to learn lessons for next time.
