Job Description:

Our client is looking for an experienced Internal Communications Officer to work on a 35 hour per week contract role to start on the 14-08-17 until the 10-11-17 with a likely

Hours are: 9:00 am to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday.


 Purpose of the Job:                         


  • To make a significant contribution to the development and implementation of a corporate communications strategy which is widely owned, ambitious and secures demonstrable improvements in the way the Client communicates both internally and externally;
  • To manage directorate communications, devising and implementing strategies (internal and external), campaigns and plans which support and further the delivery of the corporate communications strategy;
  • To manage the directorate’s relationships with the press and media; an
  • To ensure that all resources are effectively deployed in pursuit of the goals and objectives set out in the corporate strategy.


  1. Knowledge of local government and its communications requirements
  2. Knowledge of communications best practice
  3. Knowledge of full range of media and their requirements
  4. Knowledge of legal framework pertaining to communications in a local authority



  1. Experience of preparing and delivering successful communications strategies and action plans
  2. Experience of working in a busy communications/media office, managing a diverse portfolio
  3. Experience of advising on complex media issues
  4. Experience of dealing effectively with senior managers and elected members
  5. Experience of organising high profile meetings, media conferences and events
  6. Experience of managing complex projects successfully
  7. Experience of working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve objectives
  8. Experience of using IT including Word and media management software
  9. Experience and knowledge of new media
