Job Description:

Main duties include (but not limited to):

  • Support Head of Production in maintaining System to ISO9001, ISO14001, OHSAS18001 and SEPA regulations through development, embedding and promotion of health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Implement and maintain Company HSE, policies, procedures, standards and working practices and enhance the safety culture within the business; ensuring a continued figure of zero accidents and injury.
  • To ensure the Health, Safety and Environmental Policy and supporting procedures are implemented consistently across the Company.
  • To advise Head of Production on the implications of current and emerging health and safety legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations and generating action plans to ensure compliance across the Company.
  • Responsible for daily 'walk round' yard inspections, checking policies, procedures and company working practices are being properly implemented and adhered to; providing weekly reports to Head of Production including recommendations and improvement plans where required.
  • Managing weekly testing of fire alarm system and annual fire evacuation including firefighting equipment.
  • Responsible for management and issue of Permit to Work documentation.
  • Check, monitor and tagging of safety and lifting equipment and scaffolding.
  • Co-ordinate and complete risk assessments and safe work practices/methodologies. Ensure current risk assessments are reviewed and advise management on any risks that have been identified during risk assessments and site walkabouts. .
  • Responsible for identifying hazardous workplace conditions. Stop any unsafe act or condition immediately and report to Head of Production.
  • Responsible for site safety induction for all new employees, subcontractor workers and/or visitors.
  • Responsible for ensuring adherence to procedure and safe use of both vehicle and transportation equipment including cherry picker, forklift truck, cranes, vans, trucks etc.
  • To support managers to maintain safe systems, providing specialist advice, coaching and practical support.
  • Keeping up to date on specialist areas including fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and diseases.
  • Ensure procedures are fulfilled by personnel with delegated duties including First Aiders, Fire Marshals, Managers, Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work etc.
  • Develop and lead in-house training with managers and employees on all relevant aspects of health and safety.
  • To develop a monthly communications strategy for all levels of staff to include written information, tool box talks and management briefs.
  • Ensures that all relevant statutory and other notices are published and properly displayed.
  • Record all near misses, first aid incidents and other accidents.
  • Investigate and report all accidents within the timeframe set internally and the HSE
  • To investigate the circumstances and causes of accidents and take necessary steps to prevent a recurrence.
  • Co-ordinate the issuing of notifications where required to the Health and Safety Executive.
  • Prepares all legal documentation as required.
  • Prepare monthly reports on incidents, accidents and non-conformance etc to the Head of Production.
  • Managing and completion of incidents, near misses and accidents and produce statistics for managers as well as identifying ways or reducing or eliminating these in the future

  • To advise on and adhere to, procedures relating to health and safety strategy
  • Manage safety in-line with company policy ensuring all activities are carried out in a safe manner (unloading, loading, storage and issue)
  • General administration and reporting as required
  • Best practice, continually working towards or introducing better/smarter ways of working
  • Be an ambassador for Ferguson Marine. Display a business-like approach using tact and diplomacy where required or appropriate

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Relevant work experience
  • Computer literate, ability to manage and maintain management systems
  • Ability to absorb and assess information quickly
  • Effective communication and networking skills with social confidence, good team worker
  • Logical reasoning with can do attitude
  • Tenacity and ability to drive change
  • Experienced in risk assessment and accident investigation
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to demonstrate continuous development to ensure compliance with legislation

Qualifications

  • Degree in Health, Safety & Environmental Management
  • Graduate Member of IOSH
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate
