The Head of Commercial role is a critical role within the SLT managing a substantial team of Principal, Commercial and Assistant Commercial Managers as well as Performance and Admin teams and directly interfaces with many of the stakeholders. It is therefore essential that this role is held by the right person with the right behaviours to operate at "Head of" level and to fulfil all of the Responsibilities expected within that role.

What will this role involve?

  • Work closely with the leadership team to develop, implement, monitor and review the commercial deliverables in the business to meet the month end targets in the business including, inter alia, the organisational structure for commercial team.
  • Lead the commercial staff in their area to meet deliverables in terms of cash and value and monitoring of the cost/value reconciliations to enhance the commercial awareness and support the achievement of the business financial KPIs.
  • Negotiate the relevant issues with customers that is important to their area Coach and develop the senior commercial staff under their influence to enable them to grow and develop their futures and the succession of others to replace them.
  • Support the recruitment and retention of commercial staff Develop and enhance commercial liaison and influence with trade organisations, and key commercial groups Create value for existing business.
  • Implement innovative commercial frameworks that supports the governance of our business.
  • Implement commercial risk strategy, including the supply chain arrangements and put in place the processes to ensure that such commercial risks are managed effectively.
  • Develop and implement commercial awareness training Be commercially responsible for the value and cash recovery of the contract.
  • To champion processes and systems to bring efficiency to commercial management

What are we looking for?

  • Account based role on a £50m p.a. complex, long term account with multiple workstreams and mix of service delivery and capital based works
  • Provide commercial leadership support to Business Director and the SLT whilst leading and managing the commercial function to become a high performing team
  • Ability to effectively engage with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong focus on cost control/management and supporting the account to achieve its performance and financial targets
  • Legal understanding relevant to contracts
  • Strong commercial acumen

You will implement commercial policy and provide commercial guidance across the contract; and promote and develop commercial collaboration and effective working relationships with other teams in the contract, primarily finance.
