Our payments application portfolio is undergoing a transformation programme that spans the next few years. We’re looking at what the biggest tech companies in the world are doing to help solve the huge complexities of our critical systems and embarking on a new chapter in our architectural thinking.

Our focus is looking transforming our Payments architecture to utilise technologies such as IaaS, SaaS and PaaS, Kafka, automation and Microservices. This will enable us to take advantage of cloud based elastically scaling systems capable of handlings hundreds of thousands of events per second. The purpose? Outstanding customer experience. What you’ll be doing

Working within the Payments Squad you will work collaboratively with others to build the best Payments capability solutions for Nationwide using the appropriate automation Tools. You will attend meetings, offer advice/consultancy, build systems and work through problems to provide solid working solutions.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Can implement and support Cloud based solutions and integrate our various Payments services
  • Deploy new applications, updates and fixes
  • Perform root cause analysis for production errors
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues
  • Integration/migrate to/from Cloud based processes with on-prem systems
  • Work effectively with staff in all areas of the business, escalating when appropriate to management and/or R&D.
  • Experience of creating and maintaining automated build and deployment CI/CD pipelines using tools such as CloubBees:Jenkins, AzureDevOps or other tools
  • Has strong practical Linux and/or Windows-based systems administration skills
  • Has experience of configuring and using toolsets that underpin DevOps
  • Is comfortable working across multiple projects and immersing oneself in a team
  • Can build good working relationships with both technical and business stakeholders, gaining their respect and trust based on your knowledge, contribution and professionalism
  • Provide guidance and direction to less experienced Engineers to help to create fit for purpose artefacts that meet requirements of the organisation and fit the engineering architecture strategy
  • Review business requirements and the technical artefacts required for delivery
  • Provide technical input at parts of the delivery lifecycle, including consultancy to stakeholders
  • Can learn new technologies and tools quickly, has the drive and the confidence to challenge the status quo, and demonstrates a pragmatic and collaborative attitude
  • Problem-solving attitude

Experience and knowledge of the following areas would be beneficial:

  • Work experience as a Cloud Development Engineer or similar software engineering role
  • Good practical knowledge of AWS and Azure SaaS, IaaS and PaaS services
  • Good experience of setting up Pipelines to support CI/CD using tools such as Azure DevOps, Cloudbees:Jenkins or similar
  • Good knowledge of scripting languages - e.g. Power-shell, Bash, Python
  • SCRUM/Agile methodologies
  • Regulatory knowledge (PCI and GDPR)
