Our role sits within HMRC’s Chief Digital & Information Group (CDIO) we’re increasingly delivering in-house through our growing network of digital delivery centres – hi-tech, state-of-the-art facilities across the UK.

The Team:

Enterprise Integration Services (EIS) are part of HMRCs CDIO group and manage HMRC’s core integration/ middleware services, dealing with over a billion transactions every year and connecting hundreds of HMRC services.

We provide fundamental platforms for delivering Application Programming Interface (API) access to HMRC systems and provide artefacts and support for API consumer software to seamlessly integrate with HMRC digital services.

We use modern open-source products and work in an Agile way to deliver flexible, cost effective integration solutions.

Job description

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for working closely with and providing support to other architects in putting forward designs as solutions to technology challenges. You will understand the technologies in use, the overall architecture strategy and how your work supports this.

You will work closely with development scrum teams, business partners and IT colleagues to design appropriate solutions that ensure operational delivery and fit with EIS strategic end-to-end functional design.

As an Associate Technical Architect in EIS, you will be flexible and self-motivated, have a keen eye for detail and a strong focus on quality. You will have a good track record in delivering customer-focused technology change and be able to articulate technical detail to non-technical people, so it is understood.

You will also be a credible, influential and encouraging team-player: Someone who is self-motivated, a confident, communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and a proven dedication to continuous improvement in self and others.

Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Working with colleagues to understand and help design operational considerations of solutions;
  • Understanding EIS systems and the technologies that deliver those systems;
  • Understanding wider HMRC technology systems and strategies;
  • Playing a leading role on specific technical aspects of the service delivery of EIS systems;
  • Articulating technical viewpoints to technical and non-technical colleagues, senior management and business partners; and
  • Championing and mentoring colleagues.
Responsibilities

Essential Criteria:

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate practical knowledge and experience in the following:

  • Governing high and low-level designs with full lifecycle management, from requirements management to supporting the operations teams with service introduction;
  • Effective communication with business partners;
  • Enterprise and software architecture, encompassing data, application and technology incl. security;
  • Enterprise application integration incl. SOA, BPM, APIs, Web Services (SOAP/RESTful), Micro Services, Containerization; and
  • Public cloud technologies.
Desirable Criteria:

Ideally, the successful candidate will also demonstrate knowledge and experience in the following:

  • Software development and architecture;
  • Cloud (AWS/Azure/Google or Hybrid) based architecture designs and implementations;
  • Agile methodologies and principles;
  • ITIL;
  • Designing and implementing Java/JEE and/or .NET based applications incl. JavaScript based UI frameworks; and
  • Using XML, XSD, JSON and other data payload formats.
