HMRC is building a modern, digital tax administration and runs the biggest digital operation in Government, providing digital services for 45 million individuals and 4.9 million business customers. Our digital programme is multi-award winning and the envy of other government organisations.

Our role sits within HMRC’s Chief Digital & Information Group (CDIO) we’re increasingly delivering in-house through our growing network of digital delivery centres – hi-tech, state-of-the-art facilities across the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity to join HMRC’s Enterprise Architecture team where you will work across one of the biggest IT estates in Europe, supporting large scale transformations that have a profound impact both on customers and HMRC staff.

The Enterprise Architecture team is responsible for setting IT Strategy, enterprise architecture roadmaps and reference architectures as well as governing against these directions. The team is also responsible for providing solution architecture design consultancy across HMRC.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Architect with considerable experience in Business Process Architecture preferably in SAP context in rationalising and optimising Business Processes.
Job description
We are looking for someone who can work across the organisation at a strategic level both as part of a team, and on their own initiative, within a framework.

The right candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability to:

Understand the organisation’s ecosystem and its inter-dependencies.

Understand the strategic view across all architectural domains, portfolios and programmes.

Provide consultation support to Solution Architects in Process Architecture.

Support solution architects in the production of business process designs and optimisation.

Produce “As Is” and “To Be” Business Processes.

As part of the Enterprise Architecture team you will engage at a strategic level and may influence policy and the direction of both business and I.T. change. You will play a key role in ensuring that HMRC develops and maintains a strong Enterprise Architecture capability.

Responsibilities You will need to demonstrate within your application the following essential skills and experience:

A broad IT and Enterprise Architecture (EA) background, with experience in Business Process Architecture, with an emphasis on SAP.

Understand EA strategies and roadmaps from a business and technology perspective, including ‘as-is’, ‘to-be’, and transitional states.

The ability to develop and document a Product Catalogue and associated business processes.

The ability to develop, document and establish Reference Process Architectures.

The ability to understand, and the confidence to enforce, architectural principles, policies, standards and reference architectures, in the face of demanding customers, whilst considering solution designs.

The ability to simplify/explain complex and technical information by using appropriate and accessible language for non-technical audiences.

Capable of guiding the decision-making process, explaining trade-offs and making a recommendation based on all the available information.

The ability to look beyond the immediate problem and identify the wider implications across the enterprise.

An overall perspective on business issues, events and activities, and an understanding of their wider implications and long-term impact.

Significant experience in the use of Business Process Modelling tools in documenting “As Is” and “To Be” processes and in process improvement/optimisation.


Desirable skills

The following skills and experience are desirable:

Membership of the Business Architecture Guild.

Qualifications in Modelling Business Processes, Business Analysis etc.

Either have or work to achieve professional IT qualifications such as TOGAF or CITP.

Knowledge of SAP Cloud Platform (SCP).

Knowledge of Success Factors.

SC level security clearance already held.

Experience of using Abacus.
