This is an interesting and challenging opportunity that would suit candidates with strong analytical aptitude, proven data science skills and a good technical understanding of water and/or wastewater treatment processes. Working with both the Water and Wastewater Wholesale Services directorates, the Optimisation Scientist plays a key strategic role in identifying efficiency opportunities, quantifying potential within the business and developing systems to help realise it.

Through their technical knowledge, enthusiasm, and interpersonal skills, the Optimisation Scientist promotes and brings about a culture of Optimisation and Innovation. In this position, you will be responsible for putting Optimisation and Innovation at the heart of our clients business through meaningful and sustained interaction with operational managers and site staff.

The role will focus on Optimisation site audits, highlighting inefficiencies within day-to-day operations and assisting with corrective changes. You will build and use systems to identify efficiency opportunities in asset performance. You will plan and recommend remedial/developmental action plans and ensure that subsequent process and behavioural changes are easy to implement and have lasting impacts. You will extensively use data to design and own exception reporting systems, highlight asset and process performance issues and provide technical support.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Strong IT skills particularly in MS office applications including excel.
  • Good understanding of the principles of waste water, clean water and sludge treatment processes
  • Able to conduct investigations
  • Use of specialist analytical and monitoring equipment and procedures
  • Ability to utilise company specific information systems (e.g. Sludge management system, Pi Process Book, SCOPE, EDM)
  • Commercial Effectiveness and Business Expertise - understand financial and commercial implications of various contracts associated with waste water and sludge treatment
  • Must be commercially aware with good business acumen to enable opportunities to be identified, highlighted and resolved by the relevant business units
  • Must understand current waste water and sludge treatment business processes.
  • Must understand the legislative / regulatory requirements associated with H&S, regulatory compliance and waste management
  • Strong analytical skills

  • Is curious/enquiring - digs down to find out why things are happening

A degree is desirable but A-levels will be considered.

To be successful in this position you will need exceptional communication and engagement skills, and a passion for driving change. Please note that you will require a full driving license and access to a car for this role.

This position comes with an attractive salary of up to £31000 dependant on experience plus other company benefits.
