Ruby Support Engineer – Ruby, AWS, API’s, Vue.js, JavaScript, part remote

Working for a business based out of London Bridge who are building an industry-leading Pay application alongside tooling and integrations to make the process seamless for its users and clients.

As the first Ruby Support Engineer, you will help set up a dedicated engineering support function. Working closely with the DevOps and Product team’s you will build support processes that contribute to the development of internal tools and help improve the support to their clients. Debugging live issues across the stack - using Ruby and JavaScript frameworks, and relational databases. As the team grows you will have the opportunity to hire to grow the team and then mentor the junior Support Engineers.

They use a modern Ruby tech stack that includes VueJS on the front end, Rails for the backend, AWS, and Terraform for their infrastructure

Roles & Responsibilities

• Identifying and solving unstable areas of the product.
• Inform the Delivery team of solutions and formulate and enact improvements for problem areas
• Act as the second line of support by debugging live issues reported in our service desk
• Submitting a production fix for review and escalate if needs be .
• Work closely with the Project Manager to proactively design solutions to limit second line escalation by designing improvements to change the design of client or user facing products.
• Be on-call or actively support the clients on a defined rota outside of office hours.

Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience in Ruby on Rails
• Strong experience in working with APIs and API-first web applications
• Experience of AWS
• Experience with designing and querying relational databases
• Understanding of front-end JavaScript development ideally VueJS
• Experience with Auth0 and Datadog
