My customer has over thirty years’ experience in the innovation and design of special purpose machinery for many automation and engineering solutions.  All their projects are bespoke offering a wide variety of mechanical design projects to be involved in and they employ a very experienced team of highly qualified mechanical, electrical and software design engineers in the business.

They offer a close-knit family type feel as a business and have an incredible retention rate for their staff with some employees boasting over twenty years’ service in the business.

They are currently looking for a mechanical design engineer to take the lead on projects from cradle to grave so please apply to register your interest.

The Role

The Mechanical Design Engineer role in the business takes the lead for mechanical design aspects of the bespoke machinery projects the company runs, this will involve:

• Carrying out conceptual design calculations to design initial concept and prove it works.
• Selection of third-party equipment required for the project.
• Producing 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
• Design of tooling, jigs, fixtures and machine layouts on SolidWorks.
• Keeping the Project Manager up to date with technical design progress during projects.
• Mentoring and advising more junior members of the design team on their work.
• Overseeing in house trialling on machinery to isolate design issues before it goes to the customers.

The Candidate

To be successful in your application for this Mechanical Design Engineer role you will need:

• A mechanical engineering qualification
• Experience as a mechanical design engineer
• Experience in the design of either bespoke machinery or jigs, fixtures or tooling.
• To be proficient with a 3D CAD package such as SolidWorks, Pro-E, Solid Edge or Inventor
• To be able to understand pneumatic schematic drawings.
