Location: London, Newcastle, Nottingham or Telford with some travel required.

 

What will you do? 

This is a stretching and exciting opportunity to provide leadership of HMRC’s flagship Making Tax Digital (MTD) programme, a Government Major Portfolio Programme (GMPP) and critical part of HMRC's transformation agenda. 

You’ll principally be responsible for navigating the programme's delivery of challenging and historic changes to the tax administration system in line with the Government’s Tax Administration Strategy, as well as ensuring delivery of a set of interconnected projects.

 

How will you add value to the role? 

  • Experience of leading and directing major digital or technology-based transformation programmes
  • Proven track record of delivering complex changes to large organisations and large customer bases
  • Demonstrable ability to manage media and public scrutiny including possessing the requisite communication skills to translate and deliver complicated messages to a wide audience, including non-specialists
  • Ability to understand and influence internal and external stakeholders and provide astute handling of them in a political environment
  • Proven track record of leading teams both directly and through influence and standard setting
  • Evidence of building strong teams with a focus on talent acquisition and building capability
  • Working knowledge of the tax system and processes is desirable

 

What will you be part of? 

HMRC are setting up a new Transformation Group which will lead the transformation of HMRC and realise the ambitious strategy the department has set. 

The group leads change both through the active leadership of the Enterprise Change Portfolio as well as direct delivery of the most cross cutting change such as the Making Tax Digital Programme.

The group is responsible for working with and through the existing structures in HMRC to deliver transformation in a timely, collaborative and cost-effective way. The group has 3 key objectives: 

  • To develop and drive a single roadmap of transformation
  • To run and deliver major change that is cross-cutting, core to the strategic ambition and our 10-year Tax Strategy
  • To run HMRC’s Project Profession function, setting the standards we work to and ensuring there is strong capability and capacity available for all HMRC change needs 

This role is one of the most critical delivery leads in the exciting new group and is pivotal to the establishment of the group and its future success.
