Job Description:

HMRC is building a modern, digital tax administration and runs the biggest digital operation in Government, providing digital services for 45 million individuals and 4.9 million business customers.

This is a positive time to join an organisation that probably doesn’t work how you’d imagine a government organisation would. Our blog tells you a bit more about what we do and how we do it!

We are undergoing major transformation, which includes a major investment in digitisation. This means customers can do more for themselves online, in real time, on computers, tablets and smartphones therefore we are building a team of outstanding people who will create and run these new and improved technology services.

This role sits within HMRC’s Enterprise Architecture team. The team is responsible for setting the Technology Strategy, defining and directing platform capabilities, drawing roadmaps and reference architectures as well as helping to govern against these directions.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Architect to work within HMRC’s Infrastructure Domain during a time of significant change and transformation as HMRC drives the focus of IT delivery away from legacy technologies and fully exploits the opportunities that cloud technologies can provide. This position will play a key role in creating and evolving technology roadmaps that will drive the adoption of modern technology, whist pushing HMRC’s hugely complex IT estate towards a smaller set of strategic systems.
Job description
We are looking for someone with a solid Infrastructure, Cloud, and Collaboration technology background to be responsible for defining our IT strategy and roadmaps, aligning them with business strategies and capability requirements, and socialising and promoting them with senior partners. You will support and contribute to solution designs as both a specialist and a representative of the strategic viewpoint. You will be involved in proof of concept exercises to prove new reference architecture patterns and business benefits. You will additionally provide internal consultancy on potential uses and appropriateness of the technologies, driving adoption of HMRC’s Enterprise infrastructure vision.

As part of the Enterprise Infrastructure Architecture team you will engage at a strategic level, influencing policy, and setting direction for technical and business change. You will play a key role in ensuring that HMRC develops and maintains a strong IT Architecture capability

Responsibilities Essential Criteria

Focused approach on strategic alignment of technical design and architecture to meet business growth and direction.

Identity - including Single Sign On, SAML, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, Role Based Access Control, and Federation technologies.

Secure Cloud Computing - including Infrastructure Security Controls, Infrastructure Management Processes and Tools, and experience with public cloud providers – ideally Azure and AWS.

Ability to work under broad direction in ambitious environments, playing a key role in influencing strategic decision making and understand strategic consequences of IT decisions.

Experience of engaging at a strategic level and playing a key role of influencing, building and maintaining strong working relationships with partners at a senior level in order to achieve successful outcomes for the business.

Capability to articulate technical solutions to technical and non-technical people.

Able to work effectively in pressurised situations and can be relied upon to deliver, irrespective of circumstances.

The successful applicant for this role will need to be eligible for and willing to undergo SC clearance following appointment in to the post.
