Trainee Electrical Laboratory Technician

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The main purpose of the trainee role is to learn the design and testing principles associated with High Voltage cables and accessories within the High Voltage Laboratory, to assist with the setting up tests to international specifications and to record test results accurately.

This exciting position offers the opportunity to progress into a higher role with the possibility of day release to further academic qualifications alongside training in the Laboratory.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

• To learn the safe operation of complex electrical test equipment.
• To assist with the setup of HV tests, including process control instrumentation.
• Reading, interpreting and becoming familiar with international testing standards.
• To assist in the implementation of electrical tests as defined in relevant test procedures / international standards.
• Assisting with general laboratory housekeeping.
• Monitoring of tests & accurately recording results.
• Control and purchasing of materials.
• To assist in the management of annual calibrations of test equipment.
• To assist in plant maintenance activities.
• To undertake additional training and education.
• Preparation of technical approval documentation for submission to customers.
• Writing technical reports.

• Technical qualification (ideally HNC) in an electrical field.
• Good computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
• Self-motivated, good manual & practical skills, high safety awareness
• Highly organised and able to work on own with minimal supervision
