Job Description:

Our client is a leading Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls & Automation business with a superb reputation within the water and waste industry. They offer comprehensive in house design, manufacture and installation services.

THE ROLE

The Lead Design Engineer role will be responsible for the overall management of the design phase of projects:

  • Identifying team members and providing clarity of communication routes.
  • Co-ordination of design between disciplines, Management of external consultancies or sub-contractors, Package plant and integration within overall design.
  • Ownership of project MEICA schedules, Hazard Identification Checklists (HIC), Design Risk Assessments (DRA), Access Lifting and Maintenance schedules (ALM)
  • Report to the project manager using the governance processes.
  • Report design progress against programme, forecast hours to complete and update design trackers in line with monthly drumbeat.
  • Identify & manage Risk, Opportunities, Issues & Assumptions throughout the design phase.
  • Management of RFI's, responsible for getting Internal & external information / documentation.
  • For arranging site surveys & the booking of supporting Construction resources.
  • For arranging internal & external design / gateway reviews as required.
  • For the control of received & release of project information / documentation & drawings to the client & Site Supervisors.
  • Design support contact for Site Supervisor, Take ownership of site design queries & issues. Delegating to the relevant design discipline within the team.
  • Support with development of construction programme sequence.
  • Development of RAM's & Procurement schedules for handover to Construction team.
  • Development of Pre-construction works information document under Principle designer role
  • Support estimating with design data following ECI phase to provide a robust build-up of costs whilst remaining competitive.
  • Identification of probable temporary works and assistance with design sign off to ensure appreciated and planned.
  • Identification of specialist or unusual ITP/commissioning needs. Support ITC documentation
  • Assistance to fulfil PD and PC roles as required
  • Raising or supporting the Project Problem Procedure if required.
  • Attending site visits or client meetings as required
  • Quality control and ensuring sign off by required teams. Includes ensuring correct certification is received.
  • Support estimating handovers
  • Project Liaison with other LDEs, RMs, PM, DMs
  • Attend / arranged lessons learnt workshops and pass learning to other team members as required

Requirements

  • A knowledge of design interfaces with control panels and mechanical plant and working within the water industry would be beneficial
  • Electrical design experience in the Water and Waster Water industry would be beneficial
  • Able to work within a team environment
  • A good attitude towards health and safety and a desire to learn the relevant regulations and requirements
  • Willingness to learn and undertake occupational and Health & Safety training
  • Numeric and reading skills
  • Prepared to take responsibility for self and others
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to work on own initiative
  • Ability to give and take instruction
