HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) along with Revenue & Customs Digital Technology Services (RCDTS) are embarking on an ambitious and challenging digital transformation programme which will result in HMRC becoming one of the most digitally advanced tax authorities in the world.

This role sits within a wider Enterprise Cloud Services (ECS) team that is transforming and expanding to enhance its HMRC Cloud Centre of Excellence offering. It is a diverse team of around 80+ individuals, creating a dynamic and inclusive working environment. Covering Cloud Service Design, Development, Operation and Governance.
Job description
The successful candidate will be accountable for delivering designs in line with a secure, consistent and reliable framework of Cloud-based services across HMRC.

You will support the strategic shift in culture and ways of working necessary to exploit Cloud effectively.

You will work collaboratively with multiple teams to ensure they are aligned with the overall ECS Vision, Strategy & Operating Model ensuring solutions meet regulatory and security requirements

As a member of the Architecture team you will support the delivery of the ECS Cloud Architecture Strategy, across AWS/Azure and ensuring it remains aligned with the CDIO operating model. You will be an advisor and will support the roll out of key Cloud Architecture principles and processes.

Main duties
As an Associate Technical Architect - Cloud, you:
• will have a good understanding of a broad range of technologies
• will converse easily with and translate between non-technical partners and technical practitioners
• are able to switch between different problems and responsibilities and directly involved in service delivery

Ideal Candidate:
• As the ideal candidate, you will have knowledge of Cloud environments, particularly an understanding of standards, patterns, policies and architectural designs.
• Able to speak on behalf of technical teams and facilitate the relationships with indirect partners.
• Able to recommend decisions and describe the reasoning behind these. Capable of identifying and articulating technical disputes between direct peers and local partners.
• Designs systems characterised by managed levels of risk, manageable business and technical complexity and significant impact. Works with well-understood technology and identifies appropriate patterns.
• Able to understand how their work supports the team and identify the wider influences and how they apply. Able to keep an open mind and understand the broader context.

Essential Criteria:
You will have knowledge, experience and understanding of
• Working with IT risk and security architecture/consultants to drive cloud native technologies that meet requirements
• Exposure to coordinating with projects and multiple third-party vendors and influencing design decisions.
• Cloud Technologies and Principles both Public and Hybrid Cloud
• Enterprise IT governance to support the delivery of change and transformation
• Experience of working with third party vendors
• Experience or qualification in TOGAF or willing to work towards qualification

Responsibilities Key Responsibilities
• Support the Cloud Architecture Team in all architecture activities
• Recommend decisions in respect to the architecture of services and products as well as the adoption of Cloud Native tooling.
• Provide architectural inputs to customers and delivery teams, and the wider architecture community
• Work with security functions to ensure solutions meet regulatory and security requirements
• Supports the creation of high-level designs, reusable patterns, frameworks and automation to accelerate and standardise Cloud adoption and usage
• Work with engineering teams to provide guidance and governance to delivery
• Undertake structured analysis of technical issues, translating this analysis into technical designs that describe a solution
