Job Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our prestigious Oxford based client as a Lawyer within Planning.
 
You will be one of the authority’s planning lawyers advising and where appropriate its companies and external clients, whilst working collaboratively with all members of the Law and Governance Service to deliver excellent quality services across the full range of functions provided by the Service.
 
To be considered for this temporary position, you will have experience within Planning and have experience of the following:
  • Drafting and negotiating the full range of legal documents (e.g. s257 diversion/ stopping up orders, s106 agreements)
  • Advising and drafting of complex S106 obligations/agreements.
  • Advising on applications (including planning applications, CLEUD/ CLOPUD applications) and enforcement procedures.
  • Advising in relation to planning appeals and enforcement appeals
  • Planning Inquiries, s288/ 289 challenges and / or applications for judicial review.
  • Advising on the interpretation of planning policy and or the development and promotion of planning policy.
 
Essential Criteria:
 
  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister or Fellow – Chartered Institute of Legal Executives
  • Considerable post qualification experience and an up to date knowledge of the law and practice relating to planning and other relevant legal work
  • Practical experience of personally and competently conducting planning advocacy in courts/tribunals/inquiries
  • Proven ability and experience of successfully negotiating and drafting the full range of relevant legal documents without supervision
  • Ability to work in partnership and as part of multi-disciplinary project teams with colleagues, external organisations and councillors and to foster good working relationships at all levels
  • Considerable experience of providing legal advice at local authority member and officer meetings or equivalent
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deliver good quality work to tight deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to attend Committee meetings and other evening meetings (including outside the area)
  • Willingness to contribute to new ways of working and initiatives
  • Evidence of extensive continual professional development and implementation of learning
Start date- ASAP
Duration- 3 month assignment (with the view to extend if needed)
 
You must be a qualified for this position, LPC and CILEx welcome. It is NOT essential to have local authority experience.
