An exciting opportunity has arisen within HMRC’s Performance and Risk Team and Corporate Strategy team for a dynamic individual wishing to work at the very heart of HMRC decision making.

The team is responsible for:
• Developing and producing HMRC’s performance and risk reports for our Executive Committee, Board, HMT and Cabinet Office tracking the department’s activities against its strategic objectives and associated performance measures. These reports allow our Executive Committee to manage performance in relation to agreed targets.
• Overseeing and assuring HMRC’s external performance and risk reporting, delivering accurate and effective performance publications and briefings.
• Collaborating with colleagues across the finance community to support business planning decisions, risk management, target setting and fiscal events.
• Leading on the development and implementation of innovative new solutions for performance and risk reporting across HMRC. In particular, the use of Power BI and automated reporting processes.
Job description
This role will offer an outstanding view of the whole Department and how it operates internally, as well as the role it plays in supporting wider government objectives and the economic health of the UK. It will stretch and develop your strategic skills, making you consider not just the Departmental view of issues but also how our actions fit with, and impact on, the rest of Whitehall and the Government.

• Develop an excellent strategic overview of HMRC activity, broadening your exposure across the Department.
• Influence some of the biggest issues that HMRC is grappling with at the most senior levels of the Department.
• Have exposure with senior officials across HMRC.

• Set up and deliver new reporting processes and products using the latest technology available in the department.
• Upskilling colleagues in the use of Power BI and acting as a subject matter expert for the team in Power BI’s capabilities.

Responsibilities Essential Criteria:

• Strong interpersonal skills alongside proficient numeracy and analytical skills, as well as an aptitude for understanding the linkages between money, performance and risk.
• Strong technical skills in Excel and Power BI. If no Power BI experience, use of equivalent software (Tableau, QlikView, Excel’s Power Query) will be considered.

Desirable Criteria:

• Experience with the R / Python programming languages and SQL.
• Numerate Degree e.g. STEM, Finance, Economics
