Job Description:

Novum Personnel are currently recruiting for a Quality Manager in the Wrexham area for our longstanding client in the FMCG Food Industry. The successful candidate for this prestigious role will see them join the team in Wrexham at their state of the art facility overseeing a team of 6-8 people.

The Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance, development and adherence to the HACCP plan, ensuring the process is fit for purpose and meets both external and internal requirements including food safety, legal compliance, customer standards and specifications.

They will monitor and advise on the performance of the quality management system and produce data and reports on this performance, measuring against set key performance indicators.

Managing a team of Quality Assurance Operative’s across the shift to ensure that the Technical system is functioning properly. Where appropriate, the Quality Manager advises on changes and their implementation and provides training, tools and techniques to enable others to achieve conformance against requirements.

Ensuring that the Company quality standards are maintained and reviewed, adapting them where required. Communicating with customers and auditors when onsite.

They will work on improvement projects aligned to the long-term strategy of the company and will be instrumental in creating a sustainable work environment for the team.

Department Performance

Effectively manage department performance and output:

  • Take responsibility for ensuring appropriate plans are in place and implemented to deliver peak production activity requirements.
  • Monitor trends of all technical equipment to ensure they are fully functional and utilised with appropriate maintenance plans
  • Monitor and maintain all customer service levels, both internal and external
  • Provide support and guidance on projects and improvements within the factory
  • Monitoring performance by gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports.

Technical

Product Quality / Food Safety / Integrity:

  • Ensuring that the HACCP plan is up to date and working correctly.
  • Conduct internal / GMP / quality audits with the team sharing findings and actions.
  • Promoting quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the organisation.
  • Setting QA compliance objectives and ensuring that targets are achieved
  • Dealing with customer complaints.
  • Assessing the product specifications of the Company and its suppliers, and comparing with customer requirements.
  • Working with purchasing staff to establish quality requirements from external suppliers.
  • Ensuring compliance with Industry standards and legislation.
  • Agreeing standards and establishing clearly defined quality methods for staff to apply.
  • Defining quality procedures in conjunction with operating staff.
  • Managing the quality management system, setting up and maintaining controls and documentation procedures.
  • Identifying relevant quality-related training needs and delivering training.
  • Collating and analysing performance data and charts against defined key performance indicators.
  • Ensuring tests and procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated and that non-conformance are thoroughly investigated.
  • Writing technical and management systems reports
  • Bringing together staff of different disciplines and driving the group to plan, formulate and agree comprehensive quality procedures
  • Champion the development of interactive quality initiatives to help staff maintain and drive quality standards.
  • Liaising with customer’s auditors, ensuring the execution of corrective action and compliance to customers specifications are met.
  • Preparing clear explanatory documents such as customers charters.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • Previous experience of supervising / managing a team in a FMCG environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of food safety legislation
  • Advanced knowledge of HACCP and Food Safety
  • Excellent customer facing and supplier management experience together with outstanding organisational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven track record of achieving improvements within area of responsibility
  • Strong influencing skills
  • An understanding of BRC and retail customer’s expectations are important
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement performance whilst leading others
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to liaise with varying stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.
  • Extremely driven, a strong leader (able to influence people at all levels), passionate individual with a strong technical management track record in the food manufacturing industry ideally within a high-risk product background such as meat or poultry.
