Key Responsibilities
The Tech Lead is the person we trust in and to whom we delegate the technical authority of a given scope. The Tech Lead works with the team and wider community in order to produce technical solutions that are fit to purpose,scalable and reliable. He possesses the creativity, technical expertise and craftsmanship, a solid strategic vision for our stacks and a high degree of confidence when deciding abouttradeoffs.
  • Iterates with our engineering community and other stakeholders to determine the needs and technical requirements that shape our runtime stack;
  • Designs and presents solutions, both in documents and workshops. Identifies the dependencies, impacts, efforts and the skills that are required for their successful delivery;
  • Interprets internal or external challenges and issues, recommending solutions and best practices;
  • Leads the team's engineers by example, acting as a mentor in the engineering craft;
  • Participates in recruitment activities to engage and select candidates matching our criteria;
  • Defines guidelines and establishes and maintains high quality engineering standards;
  • Keeps the other engineers engaged with the technologies we're working with;
  • Evolves the engineering maturity to be on par with the non-functional and functional state-of-the-art;
  • Drives engineering-centric, scalable and reliable architecture, implementation and operation practices within the team;
  • Communicates transparently to the whole business;
  • Reaches out to other teams and works towards alignment and overall continuous improvement;
  • Acts as a beacon of excellence and as an employee of reference, mentoring junior colleagues;
  • Promotes the * brand internally and externally.
· Technical leadership and mentorship, able to translate technological challenges into appropriate solutions, plans and actions that engage other engineers to build great technology that are aligned with our strategic vision and business needs;
· Proven experience working with cloud-native software and systems, preferably on large scale deployments;
· Proven experience designing, deploying and operating scalable, highly available distributed runtime environments and services (container orchestration and deployment techniques and pipelines);
· Significant know-how about reliability, scalability and security, particularly on large scale distributed systems aimed at micro-services;
· Excellent understanding of SLI definitions, how these can be implemented across different services and stacks and exposed in our metrics tooling;
· Great knowledge of tools and approaches for environment and workload distribution and optimization;
· Vast experience in software development, preferably with OOP on Java, Go, etc. Obsessed with code quality and security;
· Great skills at the command line and with git, a ninja that puts automation first;
· Extensive knowledge and experience integrating development and operation tools, working with tools and developing software that glues things together, in order to provide a great experience to our users;
· Extensive knowledge and experience designing, building and operating cloud-native platforms. Excellent command of Docker and Kubernetes is a must;
· Great domain of networking technologies, topologies and protocols, at the cloud/datacenter level, but also around containers and service meshes;
· Past experience with telco stacks' integration into cloud-native ecosystems is valued;
· Significant experience with block/object storage and other data persistence systems. Relational, object and in-memory databases and event streams;
· Understands and identifies security requirements and risks, right-sizes exposure and the technical solutions that embed security and compliance at the source of each solution;
· Understands financial concepts and implications around cloud management and resource optimisation;
· Engaging and always willing to discuss with non-technical business people, in order to explain complex solutions with a simple understandable manner and/or capture new requirements to improve the technical solutions;
· Understands how strategic targets inform technical details and decisions, and vice-versa;
· High attention to detail. Able to anticipate needs as latent issues, before they become impactful problems;
· Active listener and data-oriented, seeks other people's insight, expertise and experience, engaging with the wider technical community to seek out the most suitable and future/proof solution, without shying away from firm and confident technical decisions;
· Thrives when working around diversity, being it ethnic, cultural, geographically distributed and/or remote locations, etc;
· As a (technical) leader in the cluster who is trusted and depended on, values re-enforcing meaningful relationships;
· Being active in the FOSS/CNCF community, having maintained or contributed to open-source projects, is a big plus;
· Positive and solution-oriented mindset, curious to experiment new technology and always eager to learn new skills;
