Job Description:

I’m working with a specialist valve manufacturer in to the chemicals sector.  They currently have a new opportunity for a Technical Manager to join them and help grow a new valve division from its current £1M T/O to £10M T/O. 

 

The company themselves are based in the UK (North West), however this position is to manage the technical aspect of their operation in China (remotely) and so, the successful candidate will be auditing and managing the technical elements of design and manufacture in China, but working primarily from home in the UK.

 

This will be managed primarily through emails, calls and Skype meetings for contact and also bi-monthly or quarterly trips to China (only around 7-10 days in duration) to audit the joint venture factory and ensure the Technical aspects are at the required level.

 

The company would like to speak with an experienced Technical Manager from within the valve industry and ideally someone qualified to C.Eng level (minimum Degree level) as the Technical Manager will have responsibility for the execution and maintenance of all Product Design and QA activities, plus assisting and advising the Commercial Departments regarding Engineering and Technical products.

 

Other Duties Include:

  • Maintain records on the Business Management System.
  • Advising the Directors of any infrastructure, equipment, training and personnel needs.
  • Take the lead in re-certification audits for ISO 9001 / P.E.D.
  • Provide Technical support to Sales and meet with customers.

 

Requirements:

  • Must be a good team player because you will be joining a small team of very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and committed people who enjoy their work!
  • Must have solid experience of design for manufacture.
  • Must have Mechanical Engineering degree. (IMechE CEng preferred) and real attention to detail.
  • Must have knowledge of globe valves. Knowledge of valves for the chemical industry would be an advantage as would knowledge of globe control valves.
  • Good knowledge of the standard IT packages plus Solid Works would again be an advantage.
  • Must be able to work independently, manage several tasks at once and work at a good pace.
  • Must enjoy overseas travel and be prepared to travel (there will be 4 to 6 trips per year each trip 7 to 10 days duration).
  • Must be able to support overseas colleagues from different cultures. Writing English in a clear way.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to understand the question and clearly communicate the answer.
  • Must show strong motivation to accept a new long term challenge in your career.

 

The company, in return can offer a basic salary of circa £40-50K (DOE), plus a very healthy bonus of up to 50% of salary! (this would be based upon your assistance growing the business, through technical management and advice).  You can be based anywhere in the UK but it may be easier for applicants to be based in the North of England for onsite meetings at the company’s offices.
