Job Description:

We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a Consultant in Stroke Medicine to join an NHS Provider in the East Lancashire area. This is a 10.5 programmed activity (PA) post, with 8.0 PA set aside for Direct Clinical Care(DCC); and 2.5 PA for Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). 1:6 weekend cover. Part time will be considered, please enquire.

This is a 1 year initial Contract, with the option to convert to Permanent/Substantive for the successful candidate.

  • All Consultants are required to attend the monthly departmental and Directorate Meetings and share in administrative duties allocated by mutual agreement within the Directorate.
  • There is a degree of flexibility within the role and candidates will be supported in specialist interest within geriatrics where this compliments current service availability and service need.

Stroke Medicine Consultant Requirements:

  • To take a shared role in the development of the stroke medicine service, in conjunction with the management team and consultant colleagues in the department of Medicine for Older People.
  • To develop and support sub-acute rehabilitation for stroke patients in community hospitals and community settings.
  • To provide an TIA service at RBH
  • To provide continued clinical responsibility for the patients under his/her care in conjunction with colleagues in medicine for older people.
  • To take part in agreed provision of cover for consultant colleagues during leave.
  • To develop and promote services that minimise hospital stay and maximise opportunities for recovery and independent living.
  • To participate in medical audits and clinical governance.
  • To provide professional supervision, direction and training to junior medical staff.
  • To participate in postgraduate teaching
  • To attend meetings of the Directorate of Medicine for Older People, Rehabilitation and Stroke.
  • To be part of the MDT on the acute and rehabilitation stroke units
  • To participate in the Hot Consultant acute stroke rota 1 in 6 weekdays 8 am to 6.00 pm
  • To participate in the Lancashire and Cumbria Telestroke rota – 1 in 15
  • Have full up to date compliance documents
