Role: Transport Manager

 Work Pattern: Tuesday to Saturday - days

 Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 depending on experience

 The Company:

My client has been established for 40 years and is one of the UK's leading fresh produce companies, providing high quality fresh produce nationwide to the wholesale markets, the catering industry and large processers.

We are looking for a Transport Manager will who be responsible for co-ordinating a fleet of 35+ HGV/LGV vehicles and drivers, ensuring and maintaining compliance in all aspects of UK law.

Role Responsibilities:

• Scheduling drivers and routes; allocating jobs to drivers.

• Recruitment and selection of driver.

• Liaising with agencies to negotiate driver rates and arrange driver cover.

• Inducting and training drivers.

• Keeping in communication with the customer and drivers with delays, breakdowns, tacho hours and any issues.

• Statutory compliance of the company’s O Licence.

• Management of all driver and HR requirements including, RTW, sickness and holidays.

• People management, such as performance reviews, staff development, disciplinary, and grievance handling.

• Carry out accident investigations.

• Updating spreadsheets and communicating with management on performance.

• Liaising and understands infringements and can deal with effectively.

• Understanding driver's hours and legal driving time, working time and breaks.

• Informing drivers of vehicle allocations and any changes in their job allocation or route.

• Ensure customer commitments are met, working with internal teams, and executing operational tasks as needed.

• Manage customer expectations and provide an excellent customer service experience.

• Carry out route costing and modelling.

• Cover for Transport Manager General Manager.

• Ensuring that the depot is performing against all agreed targets/budgets and managing all costs.

• Creating management reports on a monthly basis, dealing with all aspects of P&L.

• Liaising with the sales team in order to develop new sales opportunities and grow the business.

• Ensuring that all aspects of work and process are carried out in-line with Health and Safety guidelines.

• Ensuring there is effective and clear communication to all employees within the depot.

• To undertake any other reasonable duties as required.

 

Ideal Person Skills and Qualifications:

• Proven people management experience within a logistics environment – team player

• Logistics experience ideally with a Transport Managers CPC.

• You must be self-motivated and have the ability to hit and exceed targets.

• Excellent communication skills

• You must also have good customer services skills to deal day-to-day with all enquiries and cultivate relationships with customer and drivers align with operations team.

• You must be able to work under pressure and efficiently within time constraints

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) as well as experience using routing software.

• Transport experience with multi temp fleets

The Package:

• Salary £30K – £35K dependent on experience.

• 25 days + 8 Bank Holidays & pension
