Job Description:

Our client is looking for an experienced Housing Options Officer to work on a 37 hour per week contract role to start on the 27-11-17 until the 23-02-18 with a likely extension

Hours: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday,

 

Job purpose

 

To provide a high-quality homeless prevention, advice and assistance service to households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.

 

To provide an initial assessment service to homeless applicants.

 

  1. Qualifications and experience

 

The post-holder should possess the following:

 

  1. A good standard of education, including a demonstrably good level of numeracy and literacy.

 

  1. Knowledge of local and rural housing problems.

 

  1. Knowledge of excellent customer care.

 

  1. Knowledge of social exclusion issues.

 

  1. Knowledge of social welfare services.

 

  1. Prioritising competing demands in a pressurised environment, recognising service priorities, and managing a caseload within statutory deadlines.

 

  1. Ability to understand legislation and acquire knowledge and understanding of the Housing Act 1996, Parts VI & VII and the Homelessness Act 2002, landlord & tenant legislation and other relevant immigration and social welfare legislation.

 

  1. Able to effectively use analytical skills to unravel and assess complex casework situations and apply the law and Council policy to these.

 

  1. Able to sympathetically but firmly interview applicants in housing need to gather relevant information.

 

  1. An ability to communicate well, both individually and within a large group.

 

  1. Experience of managing own caseload.

 

  1. Experience of achieving performance targets and departmental objectives.

 

  1. Ability to use new technology to access and record information.

 

  1. Able to assist customers to identify new ways of meeting their needs.

 

  1. Ability to liaise with professional staff from internal and external agencies to achieve outcomes.

 

  1. Awareness and adherence to Health & Safety requirements.

 

  1. An understanding and commitment to equality and diversity and how it relates to housing, ensuring it is an integral part of service delivery.

 

 

Qualifications

  1. A suitable qualification equivalent to the Chartered Institute of Housing level III.

      A good standard of education, including a demonstrably good level of numeracy and literacy.

 

Experience

  1. Experience of prioritising competing demands in a pressurised environment, recognising service priorities, and managing a caseload within statutory deadlines.
  2. Experience of managing own caseload.

      Experience of achieving performance targets and departmental objectives.

 

Knowledge:

  1. Knowledge of local and rural housing problems.
