Job Description:

Our client is looking for an experienced Principal Accountant-Final Accounts to work on a 37 hour per week contract role to start on the 01-02-18 until the 31-07-18 with a likely extension to the contract role:

Hours: 8:45 am to 5:15 pm, Monday to Friday.

Purpose of the role:

To play a key role in the financial management of the Client in accordance with legislative requirements, Fit for the Future and best practice, including preparation and monitoring of budgets, Final Accounts, statistics and statutory financial returns ensuring the financial integrity of the Client’s accounts and aid financial decision making across the Client at all levels. To assist the Strategic Finance Manager.

Main responsibilities:

Working in conjunction with the other Accountants, finalise the Client’s Accounts within agreed timetables. Complete necessary statutory returns arising from the Final Accounts by the due dates, in accordance with standard accounting practices to external audit’s satisfaction so as to achieve an unqualified audit opinion

Production of the Council’s Statement of Accounts in accordance with the Accounting Code of Practice and CIPFA requirements.

Production of the Detailed Audit Working Papers and liason with the Client’s External Auditors.

 

Job Specific Qualifications & Experience

 

A CCAB qualified accountant, with relevant post-qualifying experience in a public sector finance department.

OR

Minimum three years relevant experience within a public sector finance department with either Senior AAT or part-qualified CCAB qualification.

 

 Non Job Specific Qualifications & Experience

 

Experience of high level relationships such as senior officers, Members, outside organisations (notably External Audit)

Experience of working under pressure and delivering work to deadlines

 

Ability to work on own initiative

Job Specific Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

A detailed knowledge of computer based financial management systems and software applications e.g. general Ledger.

 

Extensive knowledge and ability of spreadsheets.

 

Ability to interpret legislation and regulations
