Senior Planner needed in Sutton £28.14ph PAYE - Reference: 444985

To manage a mixed caseload of HHA, minor and complex applications (which require greater professional expertise and experience than those typically dealt with by Planning Officers at Grade 8) together with appeal cases together with pre-application advice, enforcement and related matters covering all development types and issues, with minimum supervision. Undertake site inspections to check neighbour notification, plans and site circumstances. To carry out a range of complex work in a timely and professional manner and in accordance with procedures and targets with minimum supervision.

Maintain relevant and appropriate contacts with applicants and their professional advisers, advising them on complex planning control matters, taking account of the views of internal and external consultees and other stakeholders, negotiating solutions as necessary, giving constructive support and negotiating Section 106 agreements and Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL). Preparing recommendations to the Planning Committee with minimum supervision and present cases to the Planning Committee subject to attaining the appropriate level of competency through learning and development, in discussion with the line manager.

To prepare clear, concise and accurate written reports, on a range of application types, including complex applications, with justified recommendations with conditions, or reasons for refusal as appropriate, for determination by the Manager under delegated business or at Planning Committee.

To present the client’s case at Hearings. To prepare draft written statements of the client’s case in relation to Written Representation Appeals with minimum guidance.

Ideally candidates will have:

  • An appropriate degree, or equivalent qualification, accredited by the RTPI. Three years post qualification experience of development management and / or demonstrable evidence of sufficient relevant experience to carry out the duties of the post.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of planning legislation, policy, process and procedures in relation to development management
  • Full UK driving licence

 

This is a full time role on a temporary contract basis.
