The Business Architecture Directorate coordinate and assess the high-level designs of all proposed changes, identifying gaps or redundancy. We maintain a helicopter view of the major design elements, providing the link between Strategy, Planning & Delivery teams.

We have embedded a structured design framework using recognised architectural methods and developed new architecture models that support the development of business design products.

We provide architectural oversight and insight at portfolio, programme, project or proposition level, facilitating the development of HMRC’s strategic roadmaps and ensuring integrity of design.

We have established a Business Architecture Profession where we share the same knowledgebase, a common set of practices and a career development framework.

Responsibilities

 

As the successful candidate, you will be aligned with business areas developing the early propositions and will stay aligned to these propositions as they move into programme delivery.

This will guarantee design is a permanent feature of each programme, ensuring standards are met and there is clear line of sight from strategy to delivery.
The Senior Business Architect role requires a broad background in Strategy, Business Design, Delivery and Information Technology helping smooth the transition from business to technology design.

Collaborating with others in the team and across the department, you will provide architectural viewpoints to programmes and projects; ensuring requirements are in alignment with our strategic roadmaps.

You will be encouraged to conduct deep dive analysis on a range of sophisticated and high profile topics, bringing clarity and consistency to support decision making; identify the best option where multiple are identified, and being able to communicate the reasons why to our partners.

You will maintain governance arrangements and standards for business information, escalating impacts, risks and issues appropriately. You will also play a role in ensuring HMRC develops and maintains a strong Business Architecture capability through coaching, mentoring, training and continued development of the Profession.

Essential Criteria

• Excellent communication skills and the proven track record to influence at all levels; this includes written and verbal communications as well as visualizations.

• Ability to form a broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance.

• Understanding of and ability to apply architectural principles, methods, and tools to business challenges.

• The ability to assimilate and correlate disconnected documentation and diagrams and articulate their collective relevance to the department and high-priority issues.

• Experience modelling business architecture artefacts using a variety of tools and techniques; developing standard and scalable models as required to collect, aggregate or disaggregate complex information.

• Ability to visualize and build high-level models that can be used in future analysis to extend and mature the department’s critical thinking.

• The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) Certified

• Delivery Qualifications (e.g. Agile Project Management, Prince2)
