Head of Technology (SC Cleared) 12 month contract opportunity - remote working - up to £1000 per day

Working inside of IR35 for a large Government organisation, we are looking for 2 x Head of Technology - this will be a hands-on technical leader skilled in helping teams deliver iteratively across the full stack of a mixed technical environment (from Mainframe to Cloud). We will be looking for complementary skill sets between the two leaders to ensure sufficient depth of expertise in Architecture, Engineering, DevOps and QA.

Essential Skills

You'll have a demonstrable passion for Software Engineering, with the following skills or proven experience in:

• Managing and building Software Engineering teams focussing on improving working practices and culture
• Working with digital methodologies (agile, CI/CD, User-centric design and Product delivery)
• Software architecture, especially in conjunction with Product-centric approaches and Domain Driven Design
• An ability to articulate and influence stakeholders and peers around the trade offs, implications and impact to sustainable delivery arising from compromising quality and accumulating technical debt
• Creating and scaling cloud-based systems delivered by multiple teams
• Building a Software Engineering community of practice
• Deep familiarity with a wide range of technical areas, including:
  • Modern software development, including test-driven development and other core agile technical practices
  • Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery
  • DevOps approaches and techniques
  • Data standards, privacy, and strategy
  • Cloud services and operations
  • Large complex legacy migrations, especially involving mainframe technologies
  • Security, especially building security mindsets into teams ("shift left on security")

Desirable Skills

Ideally you will also have the following skills or some experience in:

• Evolutionary software architecture
• Presenting at events & conferences
• Mentoring and coaching
• Facilitating workshops and group activities, especially remote facilitation
• Effectively managing remote work and distributed teams
