Senior Dynamics Engineer

Expired

Job Description:

An opportunity exists within the Analysis Team for a Senior Dynamics Engineer to deliver on-going client transmissions projects.

The candidate can expect to participate in a wide range of projects across many drivetrains, vehicle types and market sectors. The role involves developing a range of simulation models for transmissions and drivetrains to understand and improve the transmission and driveline performance. The role will encompass all types of transmission and drivetrain including electric.

A Senior Dynamics Engineer is required to carry out a range of analysis tasks which include but are not limited to:

  • Develop 1d, 2d and 3d transmission models for transmission dynamic response, shift quality and noise prediction.
  • Develop plant models for a range of transmission, drivetrain and actuation types to support control development in model in the loop (MiL) and hardware in the loop (HiL) systems.
  • Provide input into analysis content for customer proposals.
  • Technical supervision of junior members of the team.

Job Duties

Working in conjunction with engineers across multiple locations around the world, you will perform the following tasks:

  • Use first principles approaches to understand the dynamic behaviour of a wide range of transmission and drivetrain systems, including both the main rotating components and actuation systems.
  • Discuss and agree on requirements and targets.
  • Responsible for working closely with a design and development team to assess functionality and performance.
  • Develop 1d transmission and drivetrain dynamic models that are suitable for use during transmission control system development, balancing model fidelity with run time requirements.
  • Predict transmission noise and vibration.
  • Develop transmission durability duty cycles.
  • Support the development of future products and services, assisting in the development of new techniques.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in an Engineering or Science related discipline, however, other qualifications may be considered alongside significant industry experience.
  • An ability to apply mechanical dynamics theory.
  • Must be able to communicate and make presentations with a high degree of clarity, having the ability to write and deliver technical presentations to both internal project teams and clients.

Desired Qualifications and Experience

It would be beneficial, but not essential if the applicant had some experience or knowledge in the following fields:

  • Proven experience within the area of transmission / drivetrain analysis would be highly desirable.
  • Experience with dynamic simulation using Modelica or Simscape.
  • Experience with numerical processing in Python or Matlab.
  • Experience of gear and bearing design and rating principles.

Location

This role can either be based at Shoreham-by-Sea in West Sussex or Leamington Spa in Warwickshire, with the ability of some work being conducted from home as projects allow.
