This role will require the person to hold full Security Clearance (SC) prior to working onsite. You will need to obtain a Criminal Record Check. The Dreadnought Active Vehicle Control (AVC) programme is a fast paced exciting opportunity to develop Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) capabilities within the Engineering Lifecycle.
The AVC Functional Development Team has a vacancy for a Senior Systems Engineer within the Flight Systems / Software discipline. The successful candidate will join the Integration Team, working as part of the AVC Functional Development organisation.
The Dreadnought AVC programme operates a 'One Team' construct with partners BAE Systems Maritime and Electronic Systems.
The status of the Dreadnought Programme is UK sovereign; applications can therefore only be accepted from sole UK Nationals (Foreign Nationals and those holding Dual Citizenship are not permitted to work on this Programme).
The successful candidate will be expected to have experience across the Engineering Lifecycle with knowledge of Flight Systems and related domain knowledge desirable, especially knowledge and experience of software development and modelling & simulation, using Mathworks toolsets (specifically MATLAB and SImulink). Additionally, the candidate should have an openness to learning new skills, concepts and approaches to developing MBSE products and have excellent communication skills.
Key responsibility areas:
The successful candidate will become involved in the integration of our Matlab/Simulink models that are being developed across the teams, into a single, cohesive modelling environment that provides a representation of the system for customer and stakeholder assessment as well as a set of artefacts that can be delivered for software implementation. As such, an interest in Model Based Engineering and experience of using the Matlab and Simulink toolsets is essential. In this role the jobholder shall be responsible for:
- Working closely with model owner across the AVC Functional Development Team to ensure that models are produced to the correct standards and in line with project specific guidance
- Perform model integration activities to ensure that all teams models work together seamlessly with the Functional Requirements Specification (FRS) model
- Perform model integration activities within the Whole Boat Model to ensure that the FRS Model is correctly implemented and operates as expected within the context of the wider system models
- Maintain consistent communication across the AVC 'One Team' construct
- Develop and harmonise processes in line with Maritime and Air Sector policies
- Capture Learning From Experience (LFE)
The role is expected to require an individual who is able to take the initiative, to work collaboratively and have excellent communication skills. This is particularly important due to the fact that many of the models requiring integration will be owned and developed by other team members. While being able to work within the details of the models to ensure they compile and run together in the correct manner, the individual should also be able to consider the big picture and hence influence the continued modelling strategy on the project.
The candidate should be educated to degree level (or equivalent) or have at least 5 years experience in a related Engineering discipline. It is essential that the candidate has significant experience using the Mathworks toolsets, including but not limited to MATLAB and Simulink. Experience of using source control (SVN and GIT) for managing Mathworks models is highly desirable, as is experience in integrating multiple models within a single environment.
An appreciation and/or experience of modelling for software generation would be beneficial.
Excellent communication skills are essential to support interfaces across a number of functional work streams as well as customers and stakeholders at other BAE sites including Barrow and Rochester.
This role is to be performed working from home, with the potential for occasional travel to site being required.
