Job Description:

Purpose of Job:
To set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts, make or repair machine tools and to assist mechanical engineers with general fitting duties as required.

Principle Duties:
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and
instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers.
Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines,
shapers, or grinders.
Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools
Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and
materials onto machines.
Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to
determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and
determine product dimensions and tolerances.
Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.
Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust,
stains, and foreign matter.
Dismantle machines or equipment, using hand tools and power tools, in order to
examine parts for defects and replace defective parts where needed.
Ensure standards of good housekeeping are achieved in all work areas, including
workshops, stores, vehicles and at on site locations.
Carry out duties with minimum supervision using own initiative to plan and prioritise
workload within set timescales.
To ensure that he/she is contactable via telephone to suit the emergency/responsive
nature of the Company's core business and client base and may be expected to undertake
on-call activities when required.

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, all employees must be flexible in their
approach and undertake other duties, wherever they may be, to achieve the objectives of
the Company.


Minimum of five years experience in engineering.
Three years of experience as a Machinist, or the completion of a recognised
apprenticeship. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum
requirements may be substituted.

Salary - £32,000-£39,500, plus benefits
