This means customers can do more for themselves online, in real time, on computers, tablets and smartphones. Our roles sit within HMRC’s Chief Digital & Information Office (CDIO) and we are increasingly delivering in-house through our growing network of digital delivery centres – hi-tech, state-of-the-art facilities across the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced IT architect to work within the Chief Technology & Design Office, within the Solution Architecture & Design Team. Job description As a Senior Solution Architect you will be responsible for architectural costed design authoring and/or oversight across one or more strands within an IT Change Programme, reporting to the Programme architect.

The role includes working closely with senior business stakeholders and technical architects to ensure a cohesive integration architecture of all solution components that meet business needs, underpinned by effective management of all architectural risks, issues, dependencies and assumptions therein.

You may be leading a team of Solution Architects and will be accountable for production and governance approval of Solution Designs, ensuring alignment to the Target Architecture Landscape and the overarching HMRC IT Strategy through regular collaboration with Enterprise Architecture colleagues.

You will possess strong inter-personal skills, especially in handling diverse stakeholders across all levels within the organisation.
This role may require substantial travel and overnight stays.

Responsibilities Essential Experience

You will have demonstrable experience working in an architecture and solution design function.

. Ability to take business requirements from ideas to solution designs, obtaining architectural approval.

. Excellent collaboration skills, including experience of influencing senior colleagues.

. Good communication skills, both written and oral.

. Experience of driving and delivering technological change against a background of organisational transformation.

. Capable of making effective decisions and explaining clearly how they have been reached.

. Able to look beyond the immediate technical problem and identify wider implications.

. Capable of resolving technical disputes across varying levels of complexity and risk, considering all views and opinions.

. Ability to translate technical concepts between software engineering, delivery management and service management and partner with the business, so they are understood by all.

Desirable Experience

. Experience working within significant large scale IT Change/Transformation programmes.

. Work with minimal direction in a large, often challenging environment to influence and drive change internally and with 3rd party suppliers.

. Either have or willing to work to achieve, professional IT qualifications such as TOGAF or CITP.

. Full understanding of Business, Data, Application, Integration and Infrastructure architectures.

. Strong leadership skills and able to lead and empower teams.

. Subject matter expertise in one of the areas above.
