Job Description - Installation Safety Engineer

Reporting to: Technical Director

Location: flexible home working - but occasional trvael into London will be required

Contract - full time permanent

Re-numeration: competitive package, circa £45k and upwards DOE

Summary

Be part of a specialised team responsible for provision of electrical installation safety advocacy and best practice, working closely with our campaigns team and external partners to help protect consumers from unsafe electrical installations. You will have an enquiring mind and be able to analyse technical data to help build the evidence base for effecting change to standards and/or legislation. Above all you must be able to work effectively on your own or in a team environment, working across teams in Electrical Safety First and with stakeholders whether installers, manufacturers, wholesalers, government officials and other safety professionals.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Monitoring relevant UK/EU/IEC installation and product standards and supporting the Charity's activity on standards development
  • Chairing and/or providing secretariat to the Charity's electrotechnical installation meetings
  • Developing and maintaining the Charity's technical publications on installation safety
  • Representing the technical team at events across the UK
  • Producing and delivering presentations and technical reports
  • Responding to consumer enquiries
  • Liaising with key stakeholders and partners on installation safety matters
  • Working closely with our Campaigns team to provide technical support and consumer guidance
  • Attending meetings to support and promote the objectives of the Charity

Person Specification - You will need:

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in electrical installation design, construction, verification and periodic inspection
  • An excellent working knowledge of BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations), UK electrical safety legislation, and other relevant standards
  • A good understanding of electrotechnical principles, including new technology in the built environment
  • Relevant technical qualifications or equivalent experience
  • To be proficient in use of IT systems and software
  • To be flexible and willing to travel at short notice to various locations within the UK
  • To be a UK citizen
